While regional airspace constraints continued to influence traffic during the first half of the year, guest volumes increased steadily throughout Q2, rising from 3.5 million in April to 4.5 million in May and 5 million in June. The steady return of international carriers, improving connectivity and strengthening load factors signal resilient demand across key markets and growing confidence ahead of DXB's traditionally busier second half.

As airline schedules rebuild, Dubai Airports continues to invest in the future of DXB through a broad programme of enhancements spanning guest facilities, a new consolidated remote departures experience, expanded self-service options, the continued evolution of biometric systems, smarter operational capabilities, improved passenger flow and targeted capacity improvements. Across the airport, deployment of technology and refinements to the design and functionality of key guest areas are also underway, creating more comfortable and intuitive spaces while enhancing movement through the airport and the comfort of waiting areas. Together, these initiatives will simplify journeys, increase operational flexibility and further enhance the seamless experience expected by the millions of guests who travel to and through Dubai's gateway to the world.

Looking ahead, Dubai Airports anticipates stronger momentum in the second half of the year, supported by the ongoing recovery of airline networks and frequencies, rising international transfer traffic, easing travel advisories across key source markets, the winter schedule and Dubai's full calendar of global business, leisure and sporting events.

H1 Performance at a Glance

DXB welcomed 13 million passengers during the second quarter taking the first half traffic to 31.5 million, a 31.3% decline compared with the same period in 2025.

Aircraft movements totalled 150,600 during the first half, down 32.1% year on year, including 62,500 during the second quarter.

By the end of the first half, DXB was served by almost 50 international airlines, connecting guests to 217 destinations across 99 countries. Load factors continued to strengthen, approaching 2025 levels as international connectivity continues to expand.

Cargo volumes reached 751,340 tonnes during the first half, down 28.7% year on year, including 351,716 tonnes handled during the second quarter.

DXB processed 30.3 million bags during the first half, 28% down year on year, including 12.7 million during Q2. The mishandled baggage rate stood at 2.7 per 1,000 passengers, remaining well below the latest global industry benchmark of approximately 4.9 per 1,000 passengers.

DXB continued to deliver a seamless guest experience throughout the first half, with 98.98% of guests completing departure passport control in under 10 minutes, 98.95% clearing arrival passport control in under 15 minutes, and 99.34% passing through security in under five minutes.

The appointments see the internal promotions of Kan Ni from Vice President, Airport Operations Control Centre (AOCC) to Senior Vice President, Airport Operations and the promotion of Khalid Ishaq from Head of AOCC Integration to Vice President, AOCC. Alongside, Ahmad Al Bastaki joins as Vice President, Technology Operations and Cybersecurity within Business Technology.

Each appointment reflects Dubai Airports’ continued investment in leadership capabilities needed to support the growth and ambitions of Dubai’s aviation sector.

Together, the promotions of Kan Ni and Khalid Ishaq further strengthen AOCC, the real-time operational nerve centre that coordinates the seamless daily movement of about 200,000 guests through DXB.

Kan Ni has been central to developing the AOCC into a platform for coordinated, data-led decision-making across DXB’s operations. That capability was evident during the recent period of regional airspace constraints, when he led his teams through a rapidly changing operating environment, coordinating closely with the aviation network to help keep Dubai moving safely and efficiently.

Khalid Ishaq joined Dubai Airports in 2005 and has developed extensive expertise across its operational systems over two decades of service. His promotion reflects the organisation's ongoing commitment to developing national talent, with 75% of the management team represented by Emiratis, supporting national priorities, including Nafis and the Dubai Economic Agenda D33.

Ahmad Al Bastaki’s appointment strengthens technology leadership at a time when airports increasingly operate as technology businesses. He will lead cybersecurity, service management and infrastructure operations, bringing deep expertise to an area that is increasingly critical to airport performance and resilience.

The appointments support Dubai Airports’ continued focus on operational excellence, guest experience, digital transformation and future capacity.

I Heart DXB
At Terminal 3, Concourse B (near Gates B28), the I Heart DXB interactive installation gives departing and transiting guests a way to connect with the city before they fly. By uploading a selfie, each guest joins a living, shared portrait of Dubai in the colours of the UAE flag. The mosaic grows with every traveller who moves through DXB. Alongside it, a wall of handwritten notes gathers messages of pride and gratitude, the personal stories that give the airport and the nation its heartbeat. The experience extends beyond the installation, with rewards unlocked at participating shops throughout the airport, including souvenirs and exclusive offers.

Summer tips
Dubai Airports, in collaboration with its oneDXB partners, has activated its summer readiness plan to keep journeys smooth, safe and on time. Guests are advised to follow simple tips for a seamless experience:

• Arrive no earlier than three hours before departure and use online check-in where available.
• Guests flying with Emirates can use the airline's home, city and self-service check-in options.
• Families with children over the age of 12 can use Smart Gates to speed through passport control.
• Be aware of the latest travel regulations for the destination you’re travelling to and be prepared with all the necessary travel documents.
• Pack spare batteries and power banks in hand luggage only.
• Enhanced support is available for People of Determination, including marked accessibility routes, trained staff supporting guests wearing the Sunflower Lanyard, and a dedicated Assisted Travel Lounge in Terminal 2.
• Stay on top of flight and gate updates with DXB Express Maps, the wayfinding platform that helps guests navigate the airport with a quick QR code scan and search.

The tower now places the UAE flag at the heart of the airport, visible to every guest arriving at and departing from the city. The unveiling was marked by a special ceremonial airside event, featuring a Dubai Police parade with the ATC tower as its backdrop. Senior leaders from Dubai Airports, operational teams and oneDXB partners attended the occasion, which celebrated the collaboration, precision and shared purpose behind DXB’s daily operations.

From a single runway in 1960, DXB has grown into the world’s busiest international airport, with the 89-meter ATC tower, in operation post expansion since 2000, central to the rhythm of its daily operation. Every arrival, departure and aircraft movement depends on close coordination between airside teams, airlines, ground handlers, safety teams, service partners and the wider oneDXB community. The structure features a unique buttressed center column and arched wings, resembling a futuristic avian sculpture. At the top, a sophisticated multilevel control center forms the tower’s defining feature and is where Dubai Air Navigation Services operates and ensures the smooth running of the world’s busiest international airport.  

The awards were presented under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman of Dubai Airports, and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group.

Recognition for Digitisation and AI Integration in Health & Safety acknowledges the transformation of risk management through a fully digitised ecosystem supported by AI-enabled refresher training and virtual reality learning, helping create a safer and more seamless experience for guests and employees.

The honour for Accessible & Inclusive Travel for People of Determination Guests reflects the progress of the DXB for All pledge and its ambition to become the world's most accessible airport by 2035. Developed in partnership with the People of Determination community, the initiative is helping shape a more inclusive and accessible journey for all.

Outcomes of the collaborative spirit of the oneDXB community, both achievements reinforce Dubai Airports' commitment to innovation, accessibility and operational excellence.

Hajj departure flights will operate until 23 May on services by Emirates, Saudia, flydubai and flynas. The Official Dubai Government Delegation departs today, 21 May.

An operational readiness plan, developed to ensure safe, coordinated and efficient passenger flow during travel peaks, was built in close coordination with airline and government partners including Dubai Police, GDRFA, Dubai Customs, the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services (DCAS), dnata, Dubai Duty Free, the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA), the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and the Dubai Health Authority (DHA).

Preparations include dedicated check-in counters, assigned nearest departure and arrival gates to minimise walking distances for pilgrims, complimentary gift packs, multilingual Guest Experience Ambassadors, support desks, prayer rooms and Ihram changing facilities. Elderly pilgrims and those requiring additional support will benefit from expanded wheelchair availability, on-site health checks and ground assistance teams stationed throughout the airport journey. DCAS has also scaled up its on-ground presence to provide proactive medical support and respond to any health-related needs.

Pilgrims are advised to arrive at least four hours before departure and to carry all required travel documents, including Hajj permits and vaccination certificates, and follow documentation guidance issued by the relevant authorities.

Pilgrims are expected to return between 30 May and 2 June, and will be welcomed with dedicated arrival arrangements, including separate baggage belts for Zamzam water.

Guests travelling through DXB were invited to pause and receive personalised sketches from local, Dubai-based artists positioned throughout the airport. The activation added a simple, personal touch to the travel experience, with families gathering briefly to watch each illustration come to life before continuing on their journey.

Designed to acknowledge the role travel plays in connecting people, the initiative reflects Dubai Airports’ continued focus on elevating the guest experience through thoughtful, family-centred moments across the airport. It also highlights the everyday journeys that pass through DXB, reinforcing its role as a global gateway for people coming together.

The GEWA is one of the world’s most rigorous workplace distinctions, awarded to organisations that meet demanding standards in engagement and strengths development, and that can demonstrate how supporting and developing people leads to meaningful change. The latest edition of Gallup’s Global Database comprises of 27.6 million respondents and 6,000+ clients across over 200 countries. 

DA is a two‑time consecutive recipient of this award and the only airport on the 2026 winners list. The recognition follows a landmark year in which Dubai International (DXB) delivered the highest annual traffic in its history, retained its title as the world’s busiest international airport for the 12th consecutive year and underlines the role DA’s people play in sustaining operational excellence.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is embedded across learning and development strategy, from a microlearning platform with an AI coach to AI‑assisted creation of high‑quality content. The organisation has begun deploying AI agents through Microsoft Copilot Studio, Negotiation Coach and simulation‑based practical training to replicate the complexity of live airport environments.

The people strategy centres on building capability and nurturing one of the strongest national talent pipelines, while creating clear development pathways for Emirati and international talent alike. Flagship programmes including Future Faces and Rising Stars focus on Emirati talent development, supported by a wider promote‑from‑within philosophy that has cultivated leaders from across all areas of the business, from operations to corporate functions, who understand the organisation deeply.

Since the situation began on 28 February and intensified through March, Dubai’s airports remained operational despite constraints, supporting the safe movement of 6 million guests, over 32,000 aircraft movements, and 213,000 tonnes of essential cargo as of April 30.

Operations at DXB were maintained under continuously changing conditions, with schedules, passenger flows and ground handling aligned to available airspace. Coordinated decision-making across the airport ecosystem enabled the airport to sustain safe and consistent service continuity, despite severe constraints.

Following the lifting of all precautionary restrictions on UAE airspace, Dubai Airports has entered the next phase of recovery operations, ramping up daily fight movements and enabling airlines to progressively restore schedules.  Capacity is now primarily aligned to the availability of regional flight paths outside of the UAE, with ongoing coordination to optimise flows across neighbouring airspace.

This was supported by close collaboration across the oneDXB community, including international airlines led by home base carriers Emirates and flydubai, service partners and control authorities. Working in alignment, the airport community ensured the ongoing movement of passengers and cargo, while  enabling a rapid and coordinated increase in operations as capacity became available.

International transfer traffic through the Middle East region accounts for a major share of the global air travel market, with 22.4 million annual passenger journeys flowing through DXB, representing one third of the transfer traffic across the region’s hubs.  Maintaining the smooth operation of DXB is therefore critical to keep global journeys moving. Our focus has been on keeping operations safe and consistent for our customers through close coordination and rapid decision-making across the entire airport community and beyond, while ensuring the system remains ready to respond swiftly as conditions improve.

“Our collective response to these challenges has sharpened our ability to adapt at pace. That readiness will enable us to accommodate returning demand as capacity is restored, reinforcing DXB’s role as a leading global hub, even as some regional routing constraints remain.”

Dubai’s role as a global hub is closely linked to the international transfer market. Of the 99.3 million transferring passengers whose journeys could route through the Middle East, the region captures around 70%, with DXB handling 32% of that traffic. As conditions stabilise, this segment is expected to recover quickly, supported by demand that cannot be readily absorbed elsewhere.

DXB’s performance through this period reflects the readiness and adaptability of Dubai’s aviation sector to respond as traffic returns. The airport remains focused on maintaining safe and stable operations while aligning capacity with prevailing conditions and supporting airlines and guests through a period of continued adjustment.

Looking ahead, Dubai Airports’ outlook for the year remains underpinned by strong underlying demand. As airspace capacity continues to improve, DXB is actively increasing flight movements and working with airline and airspace partners to unlock additional capacity across the network. The airport is well positioned to accommodate further growth in the months ahead. At the same time, long-term expansion plans at Dubai World Central – Al Maktoum International (DWC) continue to progress, supporting Dubai’s future growth as a global aviation hub.

Q1 2026 Traffic Overview
DXB welcomed 18.6 million guests in the first quarter of 2026, down 20.6% year on year, reflecting the impact of regional airspace disruptions that intensified through March. Passenger traffic in March stood at 2.5 million, down 65.7% year on year.

India was DXB’s largest country market again with 2.5 million guests, followed by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at 1.3 million, the United Kingdom at 1.2 million, and Pakistan at 918,000. London remained DXB’s busiest city destination with 752,000 guests, followed by Mumbai at 520,000, and Jeddah at 505,000 guests.

Cargo volumes reached 399,600 tonnes in Q1, down 22.7%, with 66,000 tonnes handled in March. Aircraft movements totalled 88,000, a 20.8% decline compared to the same period last year.

DXB processed 17.6 million bags during Q1, including 2.6 million in March, with a mishandled baggage rate of 3.5 per 1,000 passengers, compared to 1.95 per 1,000 passengers in the same period last year. For context, the latest industry benchmark places the global average at around 6.3 mishandled bags per 1,000 passengers.

Dubai Airports today announced that Dubai International (DXB) welcomed 95.2 million guests in 2025, up 3.1% year on year, marking the busiest year in the airport’s history and the highest annual international passenger traffic ever recorded by any airport.

More significantly, 2025 was defined not by a single peak, but by sustained performance at record levels. DXB achieved its busiest day, month, quarter and year on record, operating at the edge of physical capacity while consistently delivering operational excellence. What would represent extraordinary strain elsewhere has become part of DXB's normal operating rhythm.

December closed as the busiest month in DXB history, with 8.7 million guests, up 6.1% year on year. The fourth quarter was also the busiest ever, with 25.1 million guests, an increase of 5.9% compared to the same period in 2024.

Total flight movements reached 118,000 in Q4, up 5%, bringing the annual total to 454,800 a rise of 3.3% year on year. Despite continued growth in movements, average passengers per movement remained strong at 214, reflecting sustained deployment of larger aircraft and high load efficiency. The annual load factor stood at 77.6%, a marginal adjustment of 0.5 percentage points.

Consistency at Scale
Rather than a story of isolated surges, 2025 demonstrated DXB’s ability to operate continuously and deliver a superior guest experience at record levels through disciplined planning and close coordination across the oneDXB community comprising airlines, service partners and government stakeholders.

DXB efficiently managed 86.75 million bags in 2025, a 4.95% year-on-year increase, marking the highest ever baggage volume handled during a calendar year. Highlighting the airport’s commitment to operational excellence, 89% of all arriving baggage was delivered to guests terminating at DXB within 45 minutes of the aircraft arriving on stand. DXB continued to deliver world-class mishandled baggage performance at 99.75%, translating to 2.47 mishandled bags per 1,000 guests. Guest processing times also remained stable at scale, with 99.35% of guests experiencing waiting times of less than 10 minutes at departure passport control, while 98.8% waiting under 15 minutes at arrival passport control. Security check waiting times remained below 5 minutes for 98.9% of guests.

Broad and Balanced Global Connectivity
India retained its position as DXB’s largest country market with 11.9 million guests, followed by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at 7.5 million, the United Kingdom at 6.3 million, Pakistan at 4.3 million, and the United States at 3.3 million.

Several markets recorded particularly strong growth during the year. Traffic from China increased 16.6% to 2.5 million, Russia grew 6% to 2.8 million, Turkey rose 6.7% to 2.2 million, Egypt expanded 14.3% to 1.8 million, and Italy climbed 12.5% to 1.6 million.

London remained DXB’s busiest city destination with 3.9 million guests, followed by Riyadh at 3 million, Mumbai and Jeddah at 2.4 million each, and New Delhi at 2.2 million.

By the end of 2025, DXB was connected to 291 destinations across 110 countries, served by 108 international airlines, reinforcing its position as one of the most globally connected hubs in the world.

Outlook
With demand continuing to build and capacity carefully managed, Dubai’s airports are entering a phase where performance is defined not by how high it can surge, but by how reliably it can sustain growth while consistently delivering a superior guest experience. As traffic patterns evolve, the complementary role of Dubai World Central - Al Maktoum International (DWC) will continue to expand, ensuring the emirate remains prepared for the next era of global aviation.

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman of Dubai Airports, and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, together with H.E. Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Salik, witnessed the signing of a 10-year agreement to enable seamless E-Wallet parking payments between Salik, Dubai’s exclusive toll-gate operator, and Dubai Airports, which manages Dubai International (DXB) the world’s busiest international airport. The agreement will introduce Salik’s E-Wallet payment solution across all paid car parks at DXB, covering 7,400 designated parking spaces covering Terminals 1, 2, 3 and the Cargo Mega Terminal, to be implemented starting 22 January 2026. 

The agreement was signed by Ibrahim Sultan Al Haddad, Chief Executive Officer of Salik, and Paul Griffiths, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Airports, in the presence of senior officials from both parties. 

Under the MoU, Salik will integrate its Salik E-Wallet System with the existing car park management systems used by Dubai Airports’ appointed car park concessionaire. This integration enables visitors to pay seamlessly from their Salik E-Wallet accounts, creating a smoother parking experience and improving traffic flow.  

Commenting on the agreement, Ibrahim Sultan Al Haddad, Chief Executive Officer of Salik, said: “Dubai International is one of the world’s leading gateways, continually setting new benchmarks with aviation driving tourism, trade, and investment. We are proud to support Dubai’s position as a global economic hub through our shared vision for smart, sustainable infrastructure. By integrating Salik’s E-Wallet at DXB, we are delivering a seamless, efficient experience for road users and advancing state-of-the-art mobility solutions for the emirate.” 

“This agreement is fully aligned with our strategy to expand Salik’s role in smart and sustainable mobility while accelerating growth beyond our core tolling business. It builds on the momentum we’ve created in seamless parking through our presence across UAE’s key destinations and reinforces our position as a trusted digital payments partner for leading destinations and infrastructure operators in the UAE,” Al Haddad added. 

The collaboration is designed to support Dubai Airports’ ambition to implement seamless entry and exit at car parks, increase vehicle throughput and improve traffic flow around the terminals, while delivering a more convenient, fully digital parking experience.

It also complements Dubai Airports’ commitment to smart, sustainable operations and frictionless journeys, building on recent digital payment innovations and digitalisation milestones,” he added. 

Under the terms of the agreement, Salik will be responsible for integrating, operating and maintaining the Salik E-Wallet System. Dubai Airports will ensure the continued availability of multiple payment channels, with Salik E-Wallet introduced as a seamless and convenient payment solution provider, working with its car park concessionaire to complete the technical integration and promote the new payment solution within airport premises.  

Salik’s E-Wallet solution will service all designated parking spaces covering Terminals 1, 2, 3 and the Cargo Mega Terminal. 

By partnering with Dubai Airports, Salik is extending this model to one of the region’s most important aviation assets. DXB recorded its highest quarterly traffic in 65 years during Q3 2025, welcoming 24.2 million guests between July and September, bringing total traffic for the first nine months to 70.1 million guests. 

Griffiths’ appointment signals a global push to accelerate aviation’s journey towards reducing emissions, leveraging industry expertise from the world’s busiest international airport. As the urgency to tackle aviation’s climate impact rises, SAF is recognised as the most viable near-term solution, capable of cutting flight emissions by up to 80%. Yet today, SAF makes up less than 1% of global jet fuel supply. The SMI's Pathfinder Initiative unites key players across aviation, energy, finance, and policy to drive transformative change in the industry. The SAF Pathfinder Initiative is focused on:

• Mobilising investment and demand signals to unlock production
• Advocating for harmonised global policies and incentives
• Enabling critical infrastructure upgrades
• Driving collaboration across the supply chain to overcome production and cost barriers

Under Paul Griffiths, Dubai Airports has achieved Level 4 “Transformation” accreditation from Airports Council International (ACI), a recognition reserved for the top 5% of airports worldwide. This milestone reflects not only Dubai Airports’ sustainability strategy but also the strength of collaboration with partners, to pioneering biodiesel ground fleets, radically cutting emissions, and launching multiple green infrastructure projects at Dubai International (DXB).

With the aviation sector’s 2050 net-zero goal approaching, Griffiths’ leadership aims to spur decisive action and scale up SAF adoption worldwide.

Dubai Airports has entered the winter travel season with one of its strongest networks in history, as Dubai International (DXB) and Dubai World Central - Al Maktoum International (DWC) welcome new airlines and expanded connectivity to meet rising seasonal travel demand.

Direct traffic remains a defining feature of DXB’s winter season, now accounting for 55% of passenger demand. This uplift is part of a regular annual cycle influenced by the cooler climate, a packed calendar of international business, sports and entertainment events, residents travelling abroad for holidays or family gatherings, and the continuous flow of people choosing to live in Dubai for the long or medium term.

Europe and Central Asia are driving considerable uplift this winter. FlyArystan joined the network on 29 November with twice-weekly flights from the Kazakh city of Aktau, while Austrian Airlines returned on 2 December with five weekly services from Vienna. Capacity from European carriers is also rising. Virgin Atlantic has deployed the A350-1000 on its Dubai route, lifting seat capacity by 52%, and British Airways has restored A380 services from London Heathrow. Together, these moves signal robust confidence from European markets heading into the festive season.

Seasonal demand from South Asia and the wider Middle East is also deepening DXB’s connectivity. Varesh Airline introduced twice-weekly flights from Sari in Iran on 30 October, and Fly Jinnah added twice-weekly services from Lahore on 2 November, reinforcing strong point-to-point traffic from regional hubs where winter travel to and from Dubai typically intensifies.

One of the sharpest rises this season is coming from Saudi Arabia. which is already DXB’s second-largest country market at 7.8% of total passengers as of October year-to-date. Combined traffic from Saudi Arabia reached 6.3 million across DXB and DWC, up 1.3% year-on-year, with DWC recording a standout increase of 459% to 173,000 passengers.

DWC’s role in Dubai’s wider aviation landscape is becoming more visible with many airlines now taking advantage of its readily available capacity and using it to complement existing DXB services. The airport welcomed 1.1 million guests in the first 10 months of the year, a 36.6% increase supported by demand from CIS, GCC and Western European markets. Its cargo and aircraft movement figures also continue to grow, reinforcing DWC’s strategic momentum.

Eurowings is contributing significantly to this growth with a new daily DXB service from Stuttgart, a three times a week Düsseldorf service at DWC and increased frequencies to Berlin, Cologne and Hannover, including its Premium Bizclass on the Berlin route.

This winter’s schedule enhancements reflect the confidence of airline partners in Dubai’s strong and diverse travel demand. They also underline the city’s appeal not only to visitors and business travellers, but to the many people who choose Dubai as their home, contributing to sustained growth in direct traffic and reinforcing its position as one of the world’s most dynamic aviation markets.

1. Step into the Family Zone – DXB’s festive heart
Concourse B comes alive with a beautifully curated Family Zone, complete with a glowing installation, warm winter décor,  decorated Christmas trees, festive huts for complimentary gift wrapping, and cosy seating that turns transits into joyful mini-breaks. The Family Zone is the most photogenic spot in the terminal this winter, and the perfect place to get into the holiday spirit before take-off.

2. Win prizes with the AR Bauble Hunt – DXB’s biggest winter digital adventure
This year’s star attraction is an augmented reality treasure hunt, turning Terminal 3 into a playful, geo-based discovery trail. DXB has confirmed full operational readiness across its three terminals, deploying specialised People of Determination (PoD) teams and aligning efforts across the airport community to ensure a seamless arrival experience for every delegation.

Preparations included pre-event awareness sessions for frontline employees on best-practice PoD interaction, the activation of a joint task force to oversee and manage delegation arrivals, and the installation of welcome points and reception desks for athletes. Logistical support for the official transport has been arranged throughout the arrival period.

This year’s event marks the largest participation in the Games, with the 2025 edition set to host 11 sports across eight world-class venues from 10 – 13 December, further cementing Dubai’s status as a global hub for Para sport excellence. Held under the patronage of H.H. The celebration invited Dubai Airports employees, the oneDXB community, and guests, to step back in time and experience how Emirati families once lived, socialised, and celebrated together in the alleyways and communal spaces that defined the nation’s shared heritage. Visitors arriving at DXB, Terminal 3, also enjoyed traditional performances such as Al-Ayala, Al-Liwa, and Al-Habban on stage along with entering exclusive giveaways.

Guided by the enduring legacy of the UAE’s Founding Fathers, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the event paid tribute to their vision of unity, compassion, and progress - values that continue to shape the spirit of the nation and the oneDXB community today.

From the winding sikkas to the vibrant corners of the Freej, employees were immersed in authentic cultural experiences, traditional performances, and the sights, sounds, and flavours of Emirati life. Photographic displays, heritage stalls, and local food captured the essence of the UAE’s past, transporting visitors to a time when friendship, generosity, and togetherness defined community life.

Throughout the event, attendees discovered an authentic Freej experience brought to life through a series of interactive cultural zones. A traditional market showcased Emirati craftsmanship and local products, while Dubai Duty Free (DDF) recreated the charm of its early days at DXB with a display of vintage merchandise once sold at the time. The Police Station zone highlighted the historic role of national service entities in safeguarding the community, while Customs and Immigration displays illustrated their vital roles at the airport during that era. The Bridal Room inside the Emirati house featured a special performance presented in collaboration with Dubai Culture, showcasing the traditional bridal experience. In partnership with DCAS, a heritage-inspired hospital illustrated early healthcare practices, while a Henna Corner celebrated the artistry and beauty traditions that continue to connect generations.

During this period, the pattern is consistent across both arrivals and departures. Outbound travel dominates in the days leading up to the National Day break, as residents take advantage of the long weekend. Mid-December, the rhythm shifts again and inbound travel rises sharply, driven by Dubai’s vibrant and rich festive calendar. Dubai Airports continues to work closely with oneDXB partners, including airlines, control authorities, commercial partners and airport service teams, to ensure smoother journeys. The airport has also issued smart travel tips to help guests make their journey seamless during this travel peak:

• If you’re flying with Emirates, use the airline’s convenient home, early and self-service check-in facilities as well as a city check-in option at ICD Brookfield Place in the DIFC area in Dubai.
• Arrive no earlier than three hours before the scheduled departure time. Use online check-in where available to save time.
• Families with children over the age of 12 can use Smart Gates to speed up the passport control process.
• Emirates First and Business Class guests departing from Terminal 3 can use the “Red Carpet” Smart Tunnel for a quick, document-free passport check.
• Be aware of the latest travel regulations for the destination you’re travelling to and be prepared with all the necessary travel documents.
• Properly pack spare batteries and power banks in your hand luggage.
• Say your goodbyes at home as only passengers will be allowed inside the terminals during peak periods.
• Use Dubai Metro to get to and from the airport’s Terminals 1 and 3. Metro operating times are generally extended during festive holidays and peak periods at DXB.
• Enhanced support is available for People of Determination, including marked accessibility routes, discreet assistance for guests wearing Sunflower Lanyards from trained staff, and a dedicated Assisted Travel Lounge in DXB Terminal 2.
• Stay informed on flight and gate updates with DXB Express Maps, the wayfinding platform that helps you navigate the airport with a quick QR code scan and search.
• Once at the airport, enjoy DXB’s world-class facilities including restaurants, duty free shopping, hotel and exclusive lounge access before the flight.

The new integration means Dubai Airports has successfully linked flydubai’s systems with its operational database (ODMP) and billing platform (VEOVO) resulting in a fully automated, auditable billing process that replaces manual, workflow with a more efficient, consistent, and standardised approach.

What once took thousands of PDF pages and lengthy OCR checks is now handled instantly through the standard iXML format. Dubai Airports can now send invoices directly to flydubai in digital form, allowing the airline to import and verify them immediately, a task that previously took weeks. The new system greatly improves audit and compliance across all passenger charges. Historically, passenger billing for major carriers like flydubai was complicated by large data volumes and difficult verification, but this integration has effectively solved those challenges.

Adil Al Fahim, Chief Financial Officer, Dubai Airports, said: "The Dubai Airshow is where the future of aviation takes flight, and today’s signing reflects that spirit. Our integration with flydubai transforms what was previously a long, manual, process into a fully automated, auditable system, strengthening trust, efficiency, and operational excellence across the UAE’s aviation landscape. By integrating our systems, we’ve not only enhanced transparency and efficiency but also set a new benchmark for how financial processes can evolve to support aviation excellence. This project supports the scalability for the DWC expansion, brings agility in decision making, strengthens financial resilience, improves liquidity, aligns with best practices, and the risk of human error."

The project, delivered within eight months, brought together teams from Dubai Airports finance, operations, and business technology divisions, in collaboration with the Dubai Digital Authority, GRP and flydubai counterparts. The first automated billing was successfully issued on 10 October 2025.

Commenting on the agreement, Francois Oberholzer, Chief Financial Officer at flydubai, said: “Through this new integration with Dubai Airports, we’ve transformed a once lengthy and labour-intensive process into a fully automated, real-time workflow. By linking directly with Dubai Airports’ operational database and billing platform, we now receive accurate, standardised invoices that we can validate instantly. This project not only enhances auditability and compliance across our passenger charges, but also brings a new level of efficiency and transparency to how we operate. It’s a significant improvement for both organisations and a strong example of how smart system integration can deliver immediate and measurable value.”

Also, as part of the official ceremony at Dubai World Central - Al Maktoum International (DWC), both Dubai Airports and flydubai recognised and awarded team members who played a pivotal role in the successful completion of the joint billing integration project enhancing transparency, automation, and data accuracy in passenger billing processes.

The strong third-quarter performance lifted total traffic for the first nine months to 70.1 million guests, representing a 2.1% increase over the same period last year. The airport’s twelve-month rolling traffic at the end of September reached a record 93.8 million guests. Aircraft movements also remained robust, with 115,000 total flights recorded in the third quarter. Between January and September, DXB handled 336,000 flights across all categories, up 2.7% year on year. The average number of passengers per aircraft at the end of September stood at 213.

While DXB continues to deliver exceptional operational performance, Dubai Airports’ focus is firmly on continuing to maintain the superb performance whilst getting ready for its next leap forward. Future priority projects to enhance areas across all terminals are underway and include CB Central – a unique space within Terminal 3 that showcases Dubai’s biggest and best brands and experiences. CB East – a dynamic family-friendly space with mainstream eateries and entertainment areas for all ages. CB West – the new centre of DXB providing premium shopping and casual dining experiences for passengers. And within T1, CD Central – the space located in the middle of Concourse D, with panoramic views of the airfield, refreshed dwell areas, innovative passenger information and easy access to major retail stores.

As Dubai Airports continues to manage growth at DXB, Dubai Airports is also looking to the future with the preparation of Dubai World Central - Al Maktoum International (DWC), marking the beginning of Dubai’s new aviation era. Set to take over as the city’s main international gateway in the early 2030s, DWC is being purpose-built as a future-ready, smart global aviation hub that will elevate efficiency, connectivity, and sustainability to new standards.

As Dubai Airports continues to optimise operations together with the oneDXB community and advance long-term planning for DWC, the airport remains focused on delivering its exceptional guest experience at DXB, operational excellence, digital innovation, and human-centred hospitality, ensuring that every journey through Dubai’s airports reflects the ambition and forward-thinking spirit of the city itself.

India retained DXB’s top country market in the first nine months of the year with 8.8 million guests, followed by Saudi Arabia (5.5 million), the United Kingdom (4.6 million), Pakistan (3.2 million), and the United States (2.4 million). Among city destinations, London lead with 2.8 million guests, followed by Riyadh (2.3 million), Mumbai (1.8 million), Jeddah (1.7 million), and New Delhi (1.6 million).

DXB also continued to serve as a key gateway for international tourism, with Malaysia (687,000 guests), Vietnam (493,000), the Czech Republic (341,000), Uzbekistan (312,000), and Denmark (239,000) ranking among the most popular destinations for outbound leisure travel.

DXB maintained strong performance across all service areas, handling 63.8 million bags in the first nine months of the year, up 6.2% year-on-year and a record high for the period. Of these, 90% of bags reached guests within 45 minutes of the aircraft arriving on the stand. Mishandled baggage accuracy remained high at 99.9%, equating to only two mishandled bags per 1,000 guests.

During the third quarter, 99.6% of departing guests cleared passport control in under 10 minutes, and 99.8% of arriving guests waited less than 15 minutes. Security screening times stayed below 5 minutes for 99.7% of travellers, reflecting DXB’s focus on efficiency and a seamless guest journey even at peak volumes.

The airport’s record performance underscores Dubai’s position as a global economic hub, where aviation continues to play a central role in driving tourism, trade, and investment.

Developed by Dubai Airports, dnata, flydubai and over 30 industry collaborators, the showcase highlights how collective action can accelerate the aviation sector’s transition to net zero.

The inaugural showcase marks a defining moment in aviation sustainability, highlighting what’s possible when the industry works together to tackle its greatest challenges. Nearly 30 partners – including Airbus, Bee’ah, Cobus, dnata, ENOC, Etihad ESCO, flydubai, Katmerciler and Rosenbauer – have joined forces to reimagine the turnaround process from the ground up, demonstrating how data-driven management, smarter energy use, and advanced ground-support equipment can make aircraft turnaround faster, safer, and cleaner than ever before.

The showcase will feature two zones: a welcome area focused on Decarbonising Airports and The Future of Flight, and a static display – centred around an operational flydubai aircraft – highlighting six key themes of Sustainable Turnaround, Electric Vehicles, Hydrogen Vehicles, Biofuels, Energy Management, and Circularity. Together, they will present more than 40 pieces of sustainable ground equipment and innovative technologies. Among these are solar panel systems, cooling and air quality solutions, electric baggage tractors, hydrogen-powered buses and refuelling dispensers, solar-powered waste bins, green recycling solutions, and more – many of which are locally available, reinforcing Dubai Airports’ role as a connector and accelerator of aviation’s transition to a sustainable future.

The initiative forms part of Dubai Airports’ broader sustainability strategy, focused on reducing the carbon footprint of airport facilities through energy-efficient buildings, low-emission airside vehicles, and eco-friendly utilities. Through partnerships with innovators such as Airbus, flydubai, Lootah Biofuels, and Elysian Aircraft, Dubai Airports continues to embrace technologies and policies designed to cut carbon emissions.

With global air traffic set to double by 2045, the aviation industry faces a defining challenge – to operate cleaner, smarter, and more sustainably. The Sustainability Showcase marks a pivotal step in this journey.

As one of the most anticipated aviation events on the global calendar, Dubai Airshow 2025 will welcome more than 1,500 exhibitors from 47 countries and feature over 200 aircraft across the static and flying displays – the largest in the event’s history. With eVTOLs joining the flying display for the first time, the skies above DWC will truly showcase the future in flight. Visitors can also look forward to an expanded content programme with 12 future-focused conference tracks, including seven new themes addressing the industry’s most pressing challenges and opportunities. Returning for its second year, the DXB Runway Ride expanded its scale to five rhythm-cycling sessions for the cycling community, Dubai Airports’ employees and the oneDXB airport community. Set against the backdrop of departing aircraft and the pulse of silent-disco beats, riders powered through CRANK’s signature high-energy workout, creating an unforgettable experience combining movement, music, and flight, an experience that could only come to life at DXB.
