Captured by acclaimed Emirati photographer Hind Al Raeesi, the gallery celebrates 10 inspiring Emirati women from across the oneDXB community, whose achievements and dedication continue to shape the future of aviation. Each image is paired with a personal message, where each woman reflects on her journey, growth, and hopes for the next generation of Emirati women.

“There’s something deeply moving about being trusted to capture someone’s story,” added Hind Al Raeesi, the Emirati photographer who captured the portraits. “These women brought so much light into the session. You can see it in their smiles, in their posture, in the way they wrote their messages, each one filled with sincerity, kindness, and a clear sense of purpose. It reminded me that strength doesn’t always look serious or stoic. Sometimes, it’s in how women carry joy, despite responsibility. I feel grateful to have spent time with each of them and to capture portraits that reflect their positivity and the power they bring to their roles every day.”

The ‘Messages to Tomorrow’ gallery opens to the public at Dubai International (DXB) Terminal 3, Departure Gate 2, from 28^th August until 11^th September.

To mark the occasion, Dubai Airports organised special activities at Terminals 3 and 1 for employees and the oneDXB community. These included a special charm-making station, candle-making with the Dubai Airports Youth Council, and crochet and sourdough starter workshops by Dubai Police. In addition, Emirati women employees at Dubai Airports had their photos taken on arrival for a Polaroid Wall display, creating a living tribute to their contributions.

This year’s event, running from 12 – 16 May in alignment with the Global Learning at Work Week, brings together industry experts, guest speakers, and employees from across the organisation to exchange insights and explore the evolving landscape of the travel industry. With over 35 industry experts and thought-leaders, 20 dynamic sessions, and 1000 employees participating, this year’s Learning Week is Dubai Airports’ largest to date. 

A key highlight of the week is a fireside chat with Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, and Issam Kazim, CEO of Dubai Corporation for Tourism & Commerce Marketing (DCTCM), as they discuss the evolving guest experience and the power of collaboration in positioning Dubai as a leading global hub. Futurist and author, Thomas Koulopoulos, a professor at Boston University, will also share his perspectives on the future of community and connectivity, with a focus on the ‘giga trends’ shaping how we will work, live, and play in the years to come.

The week-long programme features immersive learning experiences and expert-led sessions, highlighting forward-looking development perspectives from leading organisations including Cranfield University, Emirates, Dubai Economy and Tourism (DET), Gallup, among others. Structured around three core pillars: Inspire, Grow, and Share, the programme is designed to empower employees through thought leadership, future-ready skills, and cross-functional collaboration.

Dubai Airports' ongoing development initiatives include the Open Learning Hub, a digital platform offering over 5,000 on-demand courses, and a calendar of more than 300 annual training programmes covering leadership, digital transformation, accessibility, wellbeing, and other areas.

Earlier this year, Dubai Airports received the 2025 Gallup Exceptional Workplace Award for its employee engagement strategies. The Learning Experience team was also honoured with the prestigious Brilliance in Learning and Development Award at the HR Brilliance Awards, recognising the impact and success of last year’s Learning at Work Week.

The award honours airport operators that go beyond compliance, driving meaningful change in safety management and risk mitigation. CEO Paul Griffiths and Buti Qurwash, SVP of Safety & Security at Dubai Airports, accepted the award during the 2^nd ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East Regional Assembly and Conference in New Delhi, India.

DXB’s approach to safety is built on engagement, innovation, and collaboration. Recent initiatives include the Safety Superstar Award, which recognises employees for exemplary safety practices, and a confidential reporting system, making it easier for employees to flag any concerns. Dubai Airports has expanded its autism-inclusive training programme, equipping 45,000 employees - across the wider airport community, including partners and stakeholders - to better assist autistic and sensory-sensitive travellers navigating Dubai International (DXB) and Dubai World Central – Al Maktoum International (DWC). The initiative aligns with Dubai's broader ambition of becoming a Certified Autism Destination™ (CAD).

DXB is the world's first international airport to earn the Certified Autism Centre™ (CAC) designation, awarded by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES) and is also Autism-Certified by the Dubai Autism Centre (DAC). The expanded training programme is part of Dubai Airports’ wider strategy to ensure a supportive airport experience for guests with specific needs. 

Highlighting that genuine accessibility begins with human understanding, not just infrastructure, Majed Al Joker, Chief Operating Officer at Dubai Airports said: "True inclusion starts with people. By investing and increasing specialist training by 36% year-on-year, we are embedding a culture of understanding and proactive support across our airports. DXB and DWC are more than airports – they are Dubai’s gateway to the world, shaping the first and last impressions of our city for millions of residents and visitors. With this comes a responsibility: to ensure that every guest, regardless of their individual needs, feels supported and included.”

The comprehensive, IBCCES-accredited training has been rolled out across the two airports.  Frontline teams from Dubai Airports and key partners including Dubai Police, the General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs, Dubai Customs, dnata, Dubai Duty Free, Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, and Dubai Taxi Company, Emirates, flydubai, in addition to other airlines and concessionaires operating from DXB have integrated the training into their operations, to create a consistent, supportive environment throughout the travel experience. Employees are taught sensory awareness, effective communication, and techniques to reduce anxiety to enable them to better support and connect with neurodiverse individuals. 

Trained Dubai Airports’ Guest Experience Ambassadors, identifiable by Sunflower pins, are positioned at key touchpoints throughout DXB and DWC to provide specialised assistance and informed support to autistic guests and their families.

Throughout Autism Acceptance Month, DXB’s Smart Gates operated by the General Directorate of Identity and Foreign Affairs (GDIFA), are illuminated in blue in solidarity with the autism community. Sunflowers, an international marque for hidden disabilities, are also displayed across DXB terminals to promote awareness.

DXB continues to enhance accessibility while nurturing meaningful human connection. By equipping frontline teams with autism-inclusive training and embedding understanding across every touchpoint, Dubai Airports ensures guests feel seen, supported, and respected—not just assisted.

Services include the DXB Travel Planner, an online visual guide that helps guests and families prepare for their journey in advance and the Sunflower Lanyard, a discreet identifier for hidden disabilities that provides access to priority lanes and an autism-friendly route through check-in, passport control, security checkpoints, and boarding. 

Other key offerings include complimentary two-hour parking, dedicated taxis, and wheelchair services, along with the Assisted Travel Lounge in Terminal 2, a quiet, sensory-friendly space – all part of DXB’s commitment to making travel accessible to everyone.

Through its "We All Meet the World Differently" initiative, Dubai Airports continues to drive awareness of neurodiversity, working with the Community Development Authority, autism organisations, schools, and advocacy groups. 

The evening, organised by the Dubai Airports Women’s Network (DAWN), welcomed guest experience ambassadors, the service and hospitality performance management team, and others from across the operation, creating a space for connection, gratitude and shared reflection. 

More than just a meal, the Iftar offered a meaningful pause during the holy month of Ramadan — a chance to appreciate the everyday contributions of colleagues who bring warmth, care and excellence to every journey through DXB. It also highlighted Dubai Airports’ continued focus on building a workplace where respect, belonging, togetherness and a strong sense of community are part of the culture.

Guests arriving at Dubai International (DXB), the world’s busiest international airport, will receive complimentary Iftar boxes, ensuring they can break their fasts comfortably upon arrival. Prepared with a selection of traditional Ramadan essentials, the boxes embody the spirit of hospitality, values that are deeply rooted in Dubai’s culture and reflected in city-wide Ramadan initiatives.

Dubai Airports, in collaboration with Alokozay, is distributing Iftar meals and warm beverages to nearly 60,000 guests across DXB’s terminals. A long-standing tradition at DXB, this initiative underscores the airport’s commitment to guest comfort and wellbeing during this special time. Across Dubai, Ramadan is marked by initiatives that bring people together, reinforcing the emirate’s role as a global hub of cultural exchange and hospitality.

Majed Al Joker, Chief Operating Officer of Dubai Airports, said: “Ramadan is a time of reflection and togetherness, and we want our guests to feel the warmth and generosity of the holy month even while travelling. Through this initiative, we aim to create meaningful moments that make their journey through DXB more special.”

Beyond the Iftar box distribution, ‘Journey to Togetherness’ offers guests a deeper cultural experience. The Ramadan Bazaar, running from 21 March to 6 April in DXB Terminal 3, will feature dedicated huts from three concessionaires, offering cultural products and services tailored for the holy month. Live craft workshops will provide hands-on creative activities for all ages, while guests can experience cultural performances and art demonstrations, including Eid card-making workshops, modern henna, and Arabic calligraphy. The celebrations will culminate in vibrant acoustic performances from 31 March to 2 April, bringing the festive spirit of Eid Al Fitr to life.

Guests can also enjoy special Ramadan-themed menus and offers from DXB’s concessionaires, further enriching the experience for those arriving at and departing from DXB.

Aligned with Dubai’s vision of inclusivity, the celebrations featured a local coffee pop-up managed by people of determination, sharing an important aspect of Arabian hospitality. Additionally, an exclusive retail showcase highlighted the entrepreneurial spirit of young Emiratis and provided a platform for innovation and creativity that mirrors the UAE’s forward-thinking vision.

Strong Q3

The momentum from the first half of 2024 carried into Q3, during which DXB managed 23.7 million guests, significantly contributing to the year-to-date total of 68.6 million — a growth of 6.3% compared to the same period in 2023. Over 111,300 flights were handled in Q3, propelling the total flight movements (all operations) for the first nine months to 327,700, up 6.4% year-on-year. 

DXB’s ability to handle such high volumes seamlessly reflects the dedication of its team and partners to providing an efficient and world-class guest experience. By leveraging advanced technologies, such as biometrics and real-time tracking systems, guests continue to enjoy a seamless and elevated journey.

Top Markets and Destinations

India continued to lead as the top destination market with 8.9 million guests over the nine-month period. Saudi Arabia followed with 5.6 million guests, marking a 15.2% increase, while the UK accounted for 4.6 million guests, a 4.7% growth year on year. Pakistan and the USA contributed 3.4 million and 2.6 million guests, respectively, and Germany recorded 2.0 million guests.

London remained the top city destination with 2.9 million guests, followed by Riyadh, which saw strong growth at 2.3 million guests — a 25.8% increase. Other key city destinations included Mumbai (1.8 million), Jeddah (1.7 million), New Delhi (1.6 million), and Istanbul (1.3 million). 

During this period, DXB processed 60.1 million bags with an industry-leading accuracy rate of 99.3%. Approximately 92% of arriving baggage for terminating guests was delivered within 45 minutes of the aircraft arriving on stand. These figures highlight DXB’s unwavering commitment to operational efficiency, showcasing its capability to manage high traffic volumes with precision, maintaining smooth operations and a top-tier airport experience.

Direct Traffic and Winter Growth 

DXB expects to welcome 23.2 million guests in the final quarter, a period known for high direct traffic, driven by expats travelling home for the festive season and visitors arriving to enjoy the UAE’s packed winter calendar. Around 60% of Q4 traffic is forecast to be direct, compared to 50% in Q3 and 55% for the full year.

Major global events and attractions, from the DP World Tour Championship, Emirates Dubai 7s, festive markets and famed New Year’s Eve celebrations, to GITEX Global and ADIPEC – in the neighbouring emirate of Abu Dhabi – draw millions of international guests. The cruise season is also in full swing, with many passengers set to pass through Dubai’s ports as cruise operators capitalise on the city’s world-class infrastructure and superior air and sea connectivity. 

This bustling period further underscores Dubai’s appeal as a warm and vibrant winter escape, particularly for travellers from colder and rainier regions seeking sunshine and premium experiences. Growth is expected from Western Europe, with an increase of 237,000 seats (vs. Q3), and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) region, adding 301,000 seats, supported by home-based carriers and new airlines, including ITA, Condor, Hainan and Druk Air, which introduces a new route to Paro, in western Bhutan, are also new to the network, and Dubai World Central - Al Maktoum International (DWC) welcomes Transavia and Eurowings. This addition of airlines and destinations reinforces DXB’s status as one of the most connected airports globally.

A Strong Foundation for 2025

DXB retained its title as the world’s busiest international airport for the tenth consecutive year, unveiled by the Airports Council International (ACI) earlier this year. With its robust performance so far and the anticipated surge in Q4, its 2024 annual traffic is now forecast to reach 91.9 million guests – the highest in its 64 years. This performance underscores its operational excellence and the increasing share of direct traffic, mirroring Dubai’s broader evolution as a sought-after city for tourism, business, and long-term living, evidenced by its recent ranking as the top city in the Middle East and Africa and among the top five cities globally in the ‘Global City Index 2024’^[1].

With the groundwork laid in 2024, DXB is well-positioned for continued success, ready to maintain its leadership in global aviation and redefine the travel experience for guests while paving the way for future growth and innovation.

With the national anthem resonating and the flag lifting towards the morning sky, the celebration embodied the UAE’s spirit of unity, pride, and collaboration. These values guide every initiative across Dubai Airports, fostering partnerships that strengthen the airport community and contribute to the UAE’s continued growth, creating meaningful connections across every touchpoint.

Held at the Park Hyatt, the evening highlighted more than 15 categories, recognising partners who set the standards in customer service, operational excellence, sustainability, and visual impact. The awards celebrated those whose contributions elevate the oneDXB community and make DXB a destination of choice for millions each year.

Airline winners included, among others, Lufthansa Group for Excellence in Customer Service, Air India for Excellence in Operations, IndiGo for Excellence in Sustainability Initiatives, Saudia for the Above & Beyond Excellence Award, flydubai for Dedication to Community Development, and Emirates for the Inclusive Travel Award. In the Commercial categories, JCDecaux was recognised for Partnership Excellence, McDonald’s for Excellence in Sustainability Practices, Uber for Excellence in Guest Experience and Hospitality, Five Guys for Excellence in Marketing Campaign Development, and Emirates Leisure Retail took home the Above & Beyond Excellence Award.

As the awards resumed after the pandemic pause, the evening’s winners were a reminder of the resilience and innovation within DXB’s partner community, which continues to make Dubai a world leader in aviation.

The event was hosted by popular radio personality and influencer Kris Fade, who kept the energy high as he led the evening’s recognitions. The crowd enjoyed lively entertainment, including music from DJ Ruben and a standout performance by NotSoHuman, adding an upbeat vibe to the celebration.

DXB’s runway took on a new role as fitness enthusiasts, travellers, and employees swapped terminals for pedals, powering through CRANK’s immersive biking workout with jets taking off just beyond their handlebars. Silent disco beats set the pace, while the unique setting transformed the workout into an unforgettable experience.

According to the meditation app Calm^[1], an estimated one in three people experience some level of anxiety about flying, with fear of flying being the second most common phobia. Around eight percent of the US population either face challenges when flying or avoid it altogether.^[2] One in three people globally experience “the fear of switching off”, with 49 percent of UAE residents finding it difficult to truly switch off from everyday life while on holiday, making them among the least likely to disconnect from digital devices.^[3]

A robust wellbeing programme isn't just about promoting health - it's about creating an environment where employees feel valued, supported and empowered to grow. When our people are at their best, both professionally and personally, they bring their best work. We take a holistic approach towards our employees wellbeing, therefore our initiatives have a variety of activities that tackles different wellbeing aspects of the individual’s experience  

Aligned with Breast Cancer Awareness Month and World Mental Health Day, the campaign kicked off with yoga sessions, allowing guests to relax during peak travel times. Additional activities include a unique fitness event on Dubai International’s (DXB) runway, complimentary mammograms for female employees, and webinars on how early life experiences influence impact on workplace behaviour.

Throughout the campaign, Dubai Airports will also display impactful awareness messages on airport screens and digital channels, providing informative content. Here is what you can expect: 

Yoga at DXB
DXB will host yoga sessions led by a certified instructor at Terminal 3 during peak hours, focusing on both mental and physical relaxation techniques that guests can incorporate into their pre-flight routine. Providing a serene and rejuvenating experience, the free sessions began on 11 October and will continue to be held at 5:30AM on Fridays and Saturdays until the end of the month.

Cycling experience 
Dubai Airports is partnering with CRANK, the UAE-based boutique fitness studio, to host the signature RIDE experience on Dubai International’s (DXB) runway. The once-in-a-lifetime fitness event aims to promote wellbeing as part of the Dubai Fitness Challenge.

Pink October 
In line with Pink October, Dubai Airports is distributing wellbeing pins to guests and travellers to raise awareness of breast cancer. Additionally, free mammograms are being offered to female employees over 40 and their dependents through Prime Healthcare, while male employees can register their wives for screening, as part of their benefits.

Mind matters
To mark World Mental Health Day on 10th October, Dubai Airports in partnership with Prime Clinic offered a Brain Assessment for employees which enables early detection and management of potential cognitive impairments.

Employee webinars
Dubai Airports is also investing in employee wellbeing with webinars exploring the impact of early life experiences on workplace dynamics. A rare opportunity for Dubai Airports employees’, children aged 12-17 are being invited to learn the basics around money management and enjoy a tour of DXB. 

This refreshing approach to wellbeing sets a new standard for the aviation industry, demonstrating a commitment to guests and employees welfare that goes beyond the typical airport experience. Dubai Airports, operator of Dubai International (DXB) and Dubai World Central – Al Maktoum International (DWC), is hosting the Airports Council International (ACI) Asia-Pacific & Middle East Operational Safety Committee Meeting from 1-3 October 2024, marking a first for Dubai.

Majed Al Joker, Chief Operating Officer at Dubai Airports, inaugurated the meeting, which addresses critical topics including runway safety, advancements in firefighting technology, and ensuring the resilience of airport infrastructure in response to climate change. 

Bringing together representatives from leading airports across 15 countries, it provides delegates the opportunity to collaborate on innovative approaches that not only enhance safety protocols but also optimise efficiencies, preparing the industry’s global network for the challenges of tomorrow.

The operator of Dubai International (DXB) and Al Maktoum International (DWC), is committed to reducing its carbon footprint and enhancing operational efficiency through various initiatives, including energy-saving projects, environmental coalitions, diverting waste from landfill, and installing large-scale solar energy systems. These efforts have significantlyreduced carbon emissions and energy costs, earning Dubai Airports recognition from the Airport Council International (ACI) Carbon Accreditation Programme.

At the heart of this transformation are three exceptional Emirati women, who are playing crucial roles in supporting Dubai Airports’ sustainability goals forward. Their efforts prove that change doesn't just happen from the top down; it takes passion, innovation, and a relentless pursuit of progress across the entire organisation.

Sara Al Abdulla, Senior Manager of Commercial Sustainability, is not merely discussing sustainability; she is actively building it, one partnership at a time. Dubai Airports waste management diverts a remarkable 60% of all Dubai International (DXB) waste away from landfill, a testament to the organisation’s commitment to decarbonisation, and Sara’s ability to rally the entire airport community around a shared purpose. "Sustainability is not just a goal; it is a journey we embark on together. By building a community that shares knowledge and works collaboratively, we are creating a future that benefits everyone," says Sara. 

Maryam Alawadhi, a passionate Energy and Sustainability Engineer at Dubai Airports, is on a mission to prove that sustainability and efficiency go hand in hand. One of her key projects was a lighting and building retrofit, which managed to offset 47,000 tonnes of carbon - equivalent to planting more than a million trees annually. "Every project I contribute to, no matter how small or big, is a step towards a more sustainable world. The energy savings we achieve are more than just numbers; they represent a tangible difference in our community’s future," Maryam shares. 

As the Director of Category Management, Najla Alghammai has been at the forefront of integrating environmentally sustainable practices into procurement processes at Dubai Airports, proving that it can be a 

core business strategy. Her leadership in developing the Dubai Airports’ Green Procurement Policy has resulted in a 49% increase in eco-friendly purchases compared to 2022. Additionally, her support for implementing a Dubai Airports paperless policy has drastically reduced printing, from thousands of pages in 2018 to zeroin 2024. "Sustainability in procurement is not just about choosing the right products; it is about setting a precedent for responsible, ethical decision-making that ripples throughout the entire industry," says Najla. 

As Dubai Airports continues its journey towards a net-zero future, Sara, Maryam, and Najla stand as a testament to the power of Emirati women to shape a better future, one step at a time.

The oneDXB Chairman's Awards is an annual event organised that unites all Dubai Airports’ stakeholders to celebrate outstanding achievements across various categories, including innovation, operational excellence, and leadership.

The announcement was made during an event organised by the oneDXB youth committee in collaboration with Dubai Airports Youth Council, where young talent from across the airport community gathered to connect, collaborate and showcase their vital role in shaping the future of aviation. 

Majed Al Joker, Chief Operating Officer of Dubai Airports, commented: “Youth within our airport community are the driving force behind our continued innovation and operational excellence. The introduction of the Youth Award category is not just about recognising their exceptional contributions – it’s about reaffirming our commitment to their growth and development. During the celebration, youth engaged in team-building activities, designed to promote collaboration and camaraderie. A key component of the event was a training session focused on design thinking, equipping attendees with valuable skills and methodologies applicable to their personal and professional lives. Leaders from various entities shared their insights and experiences, reinforcing the importance of youth in driving progress and innovation. Additionally, a youth circle hosted by the General Department of Airport Security on "Building Youth Leadership Capabilities”.

This strategic partnership aligns with the UAE’s goal of increasing Emiratisation and reinforces Dubai Airports’ commitment to achieving national Emiratisation targets through strategic, private-sector partnerships.

The MoU outlines a framework for collaboration, focusing on actively recruiting Emirati talent hired through SD (Middle East), and placed across a diverse range of roles within Dubai Airports, ensuring ample opportunities for them to thrive.

The MoU was formally signed by Meshari Al Bannai, and Stefan Neumann, in the presence of senior representatives from Dubai Airports, including Majed Al Joker, Chief Operating Officer, Omar Binadai, Chief Technology & Infrastructure Officer, John Dyett, VP of Baggage Service Delivery, and Matthew Windett, VP of Talent & HR Solutions Hub and representatives of the senior leadership team from SD (Middle East), including Head of People & Organisation, Head of Customer Services (Operations & Maintenance – BHS), and Head of Business Development.

This step is part of Dubai Airports' comprehensive Emiratisation strategy which includes robust programmes to upskill and empower Emiratis. These programmes include Future Faces, a 12-month programme designed for UAE’s university graduates, the Rising Stars Internship Programme and the Fire Services Training Programme aimed at recruiting young Emiratis to join its frontline firefighting team.

Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports said since yesterday, ahead of its recovery schedule, DXB returned to its normal flight schedule and is back to operating around 1,400 flight movements a day.

“With roads in and around the airport 100% clear of water accumulation, our manpower, logistics and facilities are operating as usual again. To have the airport back up and running is no small feat. 2,155 flights were cancelled and 115 were diverted. We had to work closely with our airline partners and service providers to rework schedules, boost manpower and look after all those who had been disrupted. “I’m continuously amazed with the unwavering dedication of our Dubai Airports employees, airline partners, government agencies, commercial partners and service partners. It has been the most challenging adverse weather event we’ve had to navigate, and our people and partners worked tirelessly to keep the operation running and to assist our guests.”

31 flights were diverted to Dubai World Central (DWC) and by 19 April, all guests at the airport were successfully supported and continued onwards to complete their travel plans. Guest welfare remained a key priority throughout the disruption and although there were initial challenges in transporting supplies with road closures around DXB and DWC, over 75,000  food packs were delivered across both airports. 

“While certain challenges remain, including processing the baggage backlog, we’re working closely with our service partners but know there’s still more work to be done and once again thank guests for their patience while we work through this,” Griffiths added.  

“We’re deeply saddened by the ongoing impact of the heavy rainfall on affected communities and businesses across the UAE. We’re also supporting our own people who were badly affected by the weather and will continue to support wherever we can.”

As normal operations resume, guests should arrive at their terminal only three hours ahead of their flight departure time to avoid unnecessary congestion and facilitate smoother operations. 

The stunning design, created by Moza Al Mheiri, a talented Emirati member of the Dubai Airports design team, was inspired by the rich heritage and timeless charm of Dubai's bustling streets. Drawing inspiration from traditional patterns, the design brings to life the narrow, winding alleys, iconic architecture, and vibrant cultural elements.

Dubai Airports, in collaboration with Alokozay, is distributing iftar meals and warm beverages to nearly 60,000 guests across DXB’s terminals throughout the holy month of Ramadan. An annual tradition at DXB for many years, this initiative serves as a testament to Dubai Airports' dedication to prioritising the convenience and comfort of guests, while also underscoring its commitment to their wellbeing during this holy month.

Majed Al Joker, Chief Operating Officer of Dubai Airports, said: "We’re proud to uphold this annual tradition. These beautifully crafted boxes, designed by our Emirati colleague, are an expression of our Arabian hospitality, extending Dubai's warmth and the essence of the holy month to guests passing through DXB."

In addition to the iftar boxes, DXB’s concessionaires are offering special Ramadan deals and menus, enriching the culinary experience for guests arriving at and departing from DXB.

As the iftar approached, teams across Dubai Airports gathered to craft a visually captivating table adorned with traditional Ramadan treats—dates, fruits, sweets, and refreshing beverages. The collaborative effort fostered a shared sense of purpose for the special occasion, enhancing the overall experience.

The iftar unfolded with the setting sun, transforming the elegantly arranged table into a welcoming space to connect, share stories, and forge bonds with colleagues from across the business. 

As DXB continues to lead the way in creating unique and memorable travel experiences, the intimate iftar gathering reflects Dubai Airports’ dedication to nurturing unity and inclusivity, a testament of the company’s commitment to creating meaningful experiences for everyone who crosses through the airport’s doors.

Responding to DXB’s open call for Valentine's proposals, Dmitry and Anastasiia seized the opportunity and emerged as the fortunate couple chosen to take centre stage above DXB's Concourse B. Their journey began on a serendipitous New Year's Eve in Dubai, with Anastasiia visiting as a tourist. Meeting Dmitry at a restaurant, they fell in love almost instantly, and Anastasiia intentionally missed her flight back to Russia, choosing to stay with Dmitry. Now, their meet-cute reaches its pinnacle on Valentine's Day.

From the exclusive setting to the surprise proposal, DXB spared no effort in ensuring Dmitry and Anastasiia’s love story took flight. Her 'Yes!' was just the beginning of their journey that included a one-day staycation at a decorated suite, courtesy of the DXB Hotel. 

This proposal epitomises the collaborative efforts from all entities across the DXB community, showcasing the spirit of teamwork from conceptualising the idea to bringing it to fruition.

Dubai Airports has implemented a range of initiatives and programmes over the past few years to reduce its carbon footprint and contribute to the UAE’s goal towards a net-zero economy by 2050. To highlight eco-friendly practices while honouring the UAE's rich heritage, Dubai Culture organised interactive workshops showcasing traditional Emirati handicrafts, including the art of making Bakhoor (fragrant incense). A sustainable handicrafts workshop emphasised the UAE's heritage by demonstrating the versatile use of the palm tree. Additionally, an exhibition featured authentic local handicrafts crafted by inmates at Dubai Police correctional facilities, with proceeds supporting their families. In collaboration with the Fatima Bint Mohamed Bin Zayed Initiative (FBMI), four promising entrepreneurial projects – Zoliya, Made with UAE Hands, Amadal, and From the Arabs – were invited to showcase their unique ideas and products, further enriching the UAE's vibrant business landscape and economy.

To engage the airport community, the Dubai Airports Youth Council presented a captivating story on the Ghaff Tree, highlighting the significance and importance of this native Emirati tree in the UAE's natural heritage and culture.

The annual programme provides Emirati graduates, particularly those with STEM (Science, Technology, and Engineering, and Mathematics) backgrounds, with the opportunity to gain a holistic understanding of airport operations, through three rotational phases across a diverse range of cross-functional job roles. This includes critical areas such as Strategy, HR, and Operations, with a specific focus on AOCC (Airport Operation Control Center) and Airside Operations.  In addition to hands-on experience, participants receive focused career planning and personalised feedback and guidance from industry leaders.
Graduates who successfully complete the programme, which aligns with Dubai Airports’ commitment to nurturing local talent and strengthening, will have the opportunity to kickstart and further develop their careers at the world’s biggest international airport. 

Dubai Airports collaborates with reputable universities across the UAE to attract Emirati graduates interested in pursuing a career in the aviation sector. The next Future Faces Programme will open in May 2024.

Aligning with the UAE government's bold vision for youth empowerment, the DAYC Chalet embodies Dubai Airports’ commitment to developing young minds and fostering innovation, providing a space for aviation enthusiasts to gather, connect and be inspired. Entirely managed by youth employees, from ideation and design to planning and execution, it is just one example of how the organisation is acknowledging its responsibility to support young talent in realising their true potential as the torchbearers of the future.

In addition to the chalet, another example of how Dubai Airports Youth Council is supporting young talent is the ‘Empowering Leaders of Tomorrow’ initiative.  President of Dubai Airports Youth Council, Marwa Al Saffar commented: Launched this August, the initiative is equipping young minds with the essential skills, knowledge and self-assurance to assume leadership roles within the organisation and the broader professional landscape. In addition, DAYC represented Dubai Airports at the International Civil Aviation Organisation Meeting in Montreal earlier this year, demonstrating its dedication to leadership development. 

From 13-17 November, visitors to the Dubai Airshow are encouraged to visit the chalet to be inspired and learn more about how the youth can make a lasting impact on the future of the aviation industry.

Recognising the efforts of the OD & Workforce Planning team led by Mohammad Al Hamli, SVP of Organisation Design & Business Partnerships, the prestigious Gold Stevie® highlights their exceptional achievements in leading the organisation through a transformative journey to address the challenges posed by the global pandemic. 

The programme focused on enhancing efficiency through the development of an agile workforce plan and strategic cost optimisation initiatives, which empowered Dubai Airports to promptly adapt to changing passenger demands, resulting in substantial cost savings and a 30% more agile workforce compared to pre-pandemic levels. The Awards recognise Dubai Airports’ Omni-Channel 24/7 bilingual Contact Centre, launched as part of the operator’s wider guest experience enhancement programme. Dubai Service Excellence Scheme mystery shopper report released at the time of Contact Centre launch showed a significant movement in customer satisfaction, where ratings increased from 8.6% to 96.5% as a direct result of the newly launched integrated contact centre. The contact centre offers guests convenience and ease during their visit to Dubai’s airports through Interactive Voice Response (IVR) systems, live chat, and new options such as WhatsApp and social media.

The two awards highlight the importance of the integrated contact centre, which blends live and technology-enabled services to ensure that travellers have always-on access to DXB customer service professionals. To maintain seamless operations, the service includes the most updated and consistent information across all channels, including automated flight status check and routing to key DXB partners - that include Emirates, dnata, and the Road and Transport Authority.

Essa Al Shamsi, Senior Vice President – Terminal Operations

Essa Al Shamsi’s appointment as SVP, Terminal Operations marks the increased importance Dubai Airports places on the delivery of world class customer service and operational efficiency. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, Essa Al Shamsi will play a pivotal role within the team in the transformation of Dubai Airports’ guest experience, reinforce the collaborative approach within the DXB community and build even stronger relationships with service partners.

Moataz Roushdy, Senior Vice President – Finance

There has been a dramatic improvement in Dubai Airports’ financial operations over the past two years enabling the organisation to create a more effective, sustainable business. Following his performance in Dubai Airports’ efforts to mitigate the pandemic’s financial impact, Moataz Roushdy has been promoted to the role of Senior Vice President – Finance, reporting to the Chief Financial Officer. In his new role, Moataz Roushdy will oversee the financial operations, planning and budgeting-related activities, service costing and performance reporting covering the entire finance domain of the organisation.

Dubai Airports, operator of Dubai International (DXB), the world’s busiest international airport, and Dubai World Central (DWC), has announced the appointment of Majed Al Joker as its Chief Operating Officer (COO). The move is in line with Dubai Airports’ commitment to develop and promote emergent Emirati leaders, and is part of the operator’s preparations and planning to stay primed and ready to capitalise on growth opportunities anticipated over the coming years.

As the COO, Al Joker’s role combines key operational functions at Dubai Airports including Terminal Service Delivery, Airside Service Delivery, Airport Operations Control Centre, Security, and Safety & Sustainability into a single business unit. Prior to his promotion, Al Joker was Executive Vice President of Corporate Affairs.

Al Joker joined Dubai Airports in 2008 as Vice President of Terminal Operations before he was promoted to the position of Senior Vice President of Operations. Prior to joining Dubai Airports, he served as Deputy Director of Airport Operations at Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC). He began his journey in the aviation industry at Emirates airline, where he worked as the outstation airport services manager at several destinations and was later appointed as the airline’s regional manager for airport services covering 24 stations in West Asia.
