DA is a two‑time consecutive recipient of this award and the only airport on the 2026 winners list. The recognition follows a landmark year in which Dubai International (DXB) delivered the highest annual traffic in its history, retained its title as the world’s busiest international airport for the 12th consecutive year and underlines the role DA’s people play in sustaining operational excellence.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is embedded across learning and development strategy, from a microlearning platform with an AI coach to AI‑assisted creation of high‑quality content. The organisation has begun deploying AI agents through Microsoft Copilot Studio, Negotiation Coach and simulation‑based practical training to replicate the complexity of live airport environments.

The people strategy centres on building capability and nurturing one of the strongest national talent pipelines, while creating clear development pathways for Emirati and international talent alike. Flagship programmes including Future Faces and Rising Stars focus on Emirati talent development, supported by a wider promote‑from‑within philosophy that has cultivated leaders from across all areas of the business, from operations to corporate functions, who understand the organisation deeply.

The GEWA recognition further reinforces DA’s position as an employer of choice, supporting its ability to attract, retain, and develop industry-leading talent in an increasingly competitive global landscape. His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Airports, led the ceremony by hoisting the flag as the national anthem was played.

Senior executives, employees and partners from the wider oneDXB community gathered for the ceremony at DXB, reaffirming their commitment to supporting the UAE’s development and strengthening Dubai’s position as a leading global aviation hub.

UAE Flag Day is observed annually to reflect loyalty to the nation and its leadership, reinforce Emirati values, and renew dedication to contributing to the UAE’s continued progress and prosperity.

This year, approximately 3,100 pilgrims are set to depart from DXB on 28 dedicated flights operated by Emirates, flydubai, Saudia, and flynas. The official delegation from the Government of Dubai will commence their journey on the first official Hajj flight from Terminal 3 on 1 June 2025. To ensure a streamlined experience, Dubai Airports, in collaboration with the oneDXB community, including Dubai Police, General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs-Dubai (GDRFA), Dubai Customs, Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, dnata, and airline partners, has implemented the following measures:

• Dedicated check-in counters across Terminals 1, 2, and 3.
• Prayer rooms and changing facilities in all terminals for Ihram preparation.
• Multilingual Guest Experience Ambassadors and Hajj Committee support desks.
• Designated baggage carousels for the secure handling of Zamzam water.

Pilgrims are advised to arrive at the airport at least four hours prior to departure and to carry all required travel documents, including passport, Emirates ID, Hajj permit, and vaccination certificate.

"These journeys are personal, profound, and often once in a lifetime," said Essa Al Shamsi, Senior Vice President of Terminal Operations at Dubai Airports. “Through the efforts of our people and the oneDXB community, we want to ensure every pilgrim departs with confidence and returns with ease.”

The pilgrims are expected to return between 9 and 12 June. Preparations are in place to provide a warm welcome, coordinated baggage support, and a small token of appreciation upon arrival. The Hajj season coincides with the summer travel peak and the Eid Al Adha holiday, during which DXB anticipates a significant increase in guest volumes. Dubai Airports remains committed to maintaining operational excellence and ensuring a smooth travel experience for all passengers during this period.

The visit, organised by the Citizens Affairs Office in Ajman in collaboration with the Senior Citizens Happiness Center of the Ministry of Family, provided the senior delegation with an overview of airport facilities, including check-in procedures, terminal services, and available assistance. The programme included a guided tour with personalised support, reflecting Dubai Airports’ ongoing efforts to ensure an accessible, seamless, and welcoming airport environment for all guests.

H. E. Mariam Ali Al Maamari, Executive Director of the Citizens Affairs Office in Ajman, and Rashed Alghumlasi, Director of the Seniors’ Citizens Happiness Center, attended the event. Representing Dubai Airports were H. E. Jamal Al Hai, Deputy CEO, Majed Al Joker, Chief Operating Officer, and Essa Al Shamsi, Senior Vice President of Terminal Service Delivery.

Representatives from key oneDXB partners, including the General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs, Emirates, Dubai Customs, Dubai Duty Free, dnata, and Dubai Police, also participated, highlighting a shared commitment to inclusive guest experiences.

This initiative aligns with Dubai Airports’ broader strategy to support national priorities and contribute to community-focused programmes under the Year of Community.

The MoU signing ceremony, a significant step in public-private partnerships aimed at creating a skilled, diverse, and sustainable local workforce, was attended by Majed Al Joker, Chief Operating Officer and Omar Binadai, Chief Technology and Infrastructure Officer from Dubai Airports; alongside senior leaders from Serco including Phil Malem, Chief Executive Officer, and David Bennett, Aviation Portfolio General Manager.

This MoU is one of a series of agreements that Dubai Airports has signed, with several others in the pipeline, all aimed at driving its Emiratisation agenda. It’s part of a wider Emiratisation strategy, which includes programmes designed to upskill and empower Emiratis, such as Future Faces, the Rising Stars Internship Programme, and the Fire Services Training Programme. Dubai Airports remains committed to accelerating national development and contributing to the country’s broader economic objectives.

The operator of Dubai International (DXB) and Al Maktoum International (DWC), is committed to reducing its carbon footprint and enhancing operational efficiency through various initiatives, including energy-saving projects, environmental coalitions, diverting waste from landfill, and installing large-scale solar energy systems. These efforts have significantlyreduced carbon emissions and energy costs, earning Dubai Airports recognition from the Airport Council International (ACI) Carbon Accreditation Programme.

At the heart of this transformation are three exceptional Emirati women, who are playing crucial roles in supporting Dubai Airports’ sustainability goals forward. Their efforts prove that change doesn't just happen from the top down; it takes passion, innovation, and a relentless pursuit of progress across the entire organisation.

Sara Al Abdulla, Senior Manager of Commercial Sustainability, is not merely discussing sustainability; she is actively building it, one partnership at a time. Dubai Airports waste management diverts a remarkable 60% of all Dubai International (DXB) waste away from landfill, a testament to the organisation’s commitment to decarbonisation, and Sara’s ability to rally the entire airport community around a shared purpose. "Sustainability is not just a goal; it is a journey we embark on together. By building a community that shares knowledge and works collaboratively, we are creating a future that benefits everyone," says Sara. 

Maryam Alawadhi, a passionate Energy and Sustainability Engineer at Dubai Airports, is on a mission to prove that sustainability and efficiency go hand in hand. One of her key projects was a lighting and building retrofit, which managed to offset 47,000 tonnes of carbon - equivalent to planting more than a million trees annually. "Every project I contribute to, no matter how small or big, is a step towards a more sustainable world. The energy savings we achieve are more than just numbers; they represent a tangible difference in our community’s future," Maryam shares. 

As the Director of Category Management, Najla Alghammai has been at the forefront of integrating environmentally sustainable practices into procurement processes at Dubai Airports, proving that it can be a 

core business strategy. Her leadership in developing the Dubai Airports’ Green Procurement Policy has resulted in a 49% increase in eco-friendly purchases compared to 2022. Additionally, her support for implementing a Dubai Airports paperless policy has drastically reduced printing, from thousands of pages in 2018 to zeroin 2024. "Sustainability in procurement is not just about choosing the right products; it is about setting a precedent for responsible, ethical decision-making that ripples throughout the entire industry," says Najla. 

As Dubai Airports continues its journey towards a net-zero future, Sara, Maryam, and Najla stand as a testament to the power of Emirati women to shape a better future, one step at a time.

The oneDXB Chairman's Awards is an annual event organised that unites all Dubai Airports’ stakeholders to celebrate outstanding achievements across various categories, including innovation, operational excellence, and leadership.

The announcement was made during an event organised by the oneDXB youth committee in collaboration with Dubai Airports Youth Council, where young talent from across the airport community gathered to connect, collaborate and showcase their vital role in shaping the future of aviation. 

Majed Al Joker, Chief Operating Officer of Dubai Airports, commented: “Youth within our airport community are the driving force behind our continued innovation and operational excellence. The introduction of the Youth Award category is not just about recognising their exceptional contributions – it’s about reaffirming our commitment to their growth and development. During the celebration, youth engaged in team-building activities, designed to promote collaboration and camaraderie. A key component of the event was a training session focused on design thinking, equipping attendees with valuable skills and methodologies applicable to their personal and professional lives. Leaders from various entities shared their insights and experiences, reinforcing the importance of youth in driving progress and innovation. Additionally, a youth circle hosted by the General Department of Airport Security on "Building Youth Leadership Capabilities”.

The MoU was formally signed by Meshari Al Bannai, and Stefan Neumann, in the presence of senior representatives from Dubai Airports, including Majed Al Joker, Chief Operating Officer, Omar Binadai, Chief Technology & Infrastructure Officer, John Dyett, VP of Baggage Service Delivery, and Matthew Windett, VP of Talent & HR Solutions Hub and representatives of the senior leadership team from SD (Middle East), including Head of People & Organisation, Head of Customer Services (Operations & Maintenance – BHS), and Head of Business Development.

This step is part of Dubai Airports' comprehensive Emiratisation strategy which includes robust programmes to upskill and empower Emiratis. These programmes include Future Faces, a 12-month programme designed for UAE’s university graduates, the Rising Stars Internship Programme and the Fire Services Training Programme aimed at recruiting young Emiratis to join its frontline firefighting team.

Held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman of Dubai Airports and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline Group, the celebratory event hosted Emirati Astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi, a symbol of the UAE's pioneering spirit and commitment to innovation as a guest of honour. The event brought together employees of Dubai Airports and its strategic partners from across the airport community, including airlines, Dubai Police, General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA), dnata, and representatives from Dubai Customs, Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services (DCAS), and Dubai Culture.  

Reflecting on the occasion, His Excellency Jamal Al Hai, Deputy CEO of Dubai Airports, said: “As we mark the 52^ndUAE Union Day, we are not just celebrating our nation's rich history; we are embracing the future. This year's focus on sustainability aligns perfectly with our commitment to connect the world responsibly, ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come”.

Dubai Airports has implemented a range of initiatives and programmes over the past few years to reduce its carbon footprint and contribute to the UAE’s goal towards a net-zero economy by 2050. To highlight eco-friendly practices while honouring the UAE's rich heritage, Dubai Culture organised interactive workshops showcasing traditional Emirati handicrafts, including the art of making Bakhoor (fragrant incense). A sustainable handicrafts workshop emphasised the UAE's heritage by demonstrating the versatile use of the palm tree. Additionally, an exhibition featured authentic local handicrafts crafted by inmates at Dubai Police correctional facilities, with proceeds supporting their families. In collaboration with the Fatima Bint Mohamed Bin Zayed Initiative (FBMI), four promising entrepreneurial projects – Zoliya, Made with UAE Hands, Amadal, and From the Arabs – were invited to showcase their unique ideas and products, further enriching the UAE's vibrant business landscape and economy.

To engage the airport community, the Dubai Airports Youth Council presented a captivating story on the Ghaff Tree, highlighting the significance and importance of this native Emirati tree in the UAE's natural heritage and culture.

The MoU aligns with Dubai Airports’ commitment to support UAE Vision 2021 and Dubai Plan 2021 for the Emirate to be the world’s leading disability-friendly city. Building on the success of the ‘We all meet the world differently' programme launched last year, Dubai Airports continues its efforts to make travelling easier for passengers with hidden disabilities at both Dubai International (DXB) and Dubai World Central (DWC).

Essa Al Shamsi, SVP of Terminal Operations at Dubai Airports, said: “We understand the importance of bridging gaps in service levels and enhancing facilities that guests with disabilities require to enjoy their journey to their fullest, and we're committed to continuously improving to meet and exceed guest expectations. Our partnership with the Dubai Autism Center not only demonstrates our efforts to provide an exceptional travel experience for all guests but also underscores our dedication to creating an airport environment where everyone can feel comfortable and supported.”

Mohammed Al Emadi, Director General of the Dubai Autism Center said, “We are proud that the cooperation between the Center and Dubai Airports over more than a year has yielded fruit by creating an autism-friendly travel experience at one of the world’s most prominent airport hubs.” 

 Al Emadi expressed his appreciation towards Dubai Airports and their tireless efforts to enhance the travel experience for people of determination, from the services they seek at the airport to implementing an environment that meets their needs as fully as others, in line with the vision of the UAE’s wise government to transform the Emirate of Dubai into a friendly city for people of determination.

The MoU was signed by Essa Al Shamsi and Mohammed Al-Emadi at DXB’s Al Majlis VIP facility in the presence of senior representatives from both organisations. Following the signing ceremony, the representatives came together at Terminal 3 departure forecourt to plant sunflowers – a globally recognised symbol for hidden disabilities – in a move symbolising positivity, hope, and a brighter future. 

DXB received the Autism-friendly certificate in November 2022 after successfully meeting the requirements of DAC’sAutism-Friendly Programme for providing services and facilities to support accessibility for people with autism. DXB introduced a range of options for POD travellers, including a travel planner for pre-travel preparation and an Autism Friendly Route, offering a prioritised route for check-in, passport control, security checkpoints, and boarding, which can be availed when wearing the sunflower lanyard. Specially trained Guest Experience Ambassadors and employees wearing a sunflower pin are readily available to assist and support travellers throughout their airport journey.

Hosted by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), a specialised United Nations agency, this was the first edition of the event and was held under the theme ‘Shaping the Skies of Tomorrow: Addressing Key Issues and Technologies in Air Navigation and Safety’.

In Montreal, aviation professionals and experts came together to explore the latest innovations and challenges, focusing on aviation safety and efficiency. DAYC’s participation solidified Dubai Airports’ commitment to developing youth in the aviation industry, in line with the UAE Government’s vision of harnessing their talent and empowering the leaders of tomorrow. 

Commenting on the partnership, Majed Al Joker, Chief Operating Officer of Dubai Airports, said: “Attending Air Navigation World 2023 allowed us to showcase the skills and potential of youth in the UAE. The UAE Government advocates youth empowerment, constantly creating new ways for youth to shoulder responsibilities, innovate, and contribute to the welfare of the wider community. Our participation is a testament to the UAE’s leading status in global aviation, and we’re proud to have collaborated on an international stage to foster the future leaders of the industry.”

Further to offering insights into the vision, mission and objectives for the aviation industry's evolution and the youth's role in addressing it, the group showcased an array of innovative, youth-led projects that were successfully integrated into Dubai Airports' operations. These included the Passenger Flow Model (PFM) and several AI-based initiatives that support operational efficiency and ensure seamless guest experience at every touchpoint at Dubai International (DXB), even during peak times.

In support of the UAE Government’s NAFIS Programme and its empowerment of Emiratis in the private sector, Dubai Airports is signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Enova, a joint venture between Majid Al Futtaim and Veolia, to boost Emiratisation in Enova’s provision of Facilities Management Services.

The agreement aligns with the UAE Cabinet’s goal of increasing Emiratisation by two per cent annually and underwrites Dubai Airport’s commitment to meeting – and exceeding – national Emiratisation targets from 2023 to 2026, and beyond through its strategic private sector partnerships. 

The agreement was recently signed by Meshari Al Bannai, Executive Vice President of Human Resources Development, Dubai Airports and Renaud Capris, Chief Executive Officer, Enova, in the presence of several senior leaders – including Majed Al Joker, Chief Operating Officer, and Omar Binadai, EVP Infrastructure of Dubai Airports, respectively, as well as Khalifa Bin Braik Chief Executive Officer, Majid Al Futtaim Asset Management Business and Fatima Alloghani, Emiratisation Director, Majid Al Futtaim.

The partnership will see Enova’s proposed Emiratisation Plan – which aims to increase Emiratisation by 15 per cent by 2025 onwards – activated over the course of the contract. Enova’s dedication to targeting 15 per cent Emiratisation during the next three years underpins Majid Al Futtaim’s initiative and the UAE Government’s NAFIS Programme and is actively contributing to the nation’s economic growth and development journey. 

To meet the targets outlined in the MoU, Dubai Airports and Enova will allocate positions to graduate trainees, fresh graduates, and experienced professionals alike, with technical, administrative, and supervisory roles serving as key areas of professional development. The recruitment plan will roll out in phases, ensuring that UAE nationals receive high-quality, on-the-job training necessary to equip them for the demands of the industry.

Dubai Airports is boosting Emiratis in frontline roles with first batch of graduates of its state-of-the-art emergency services training programme structured to develop a world-class Emirati firefighting team at Dubai International (DXB) trained to the highest industry and professional standards and ready to respond to any possible emergency. Following this first batch of graduates, which included 23 trainees, Dubai Airports is actively recruiting the next cohort of Emiratis to join its world class firefighting team.

The new programme, empowers and enables nationals to succeed in the Airport Fire Services department and improve their broader professional competence in the aviation sector. Graduates completed a 14-week intensive training programme that comprised six weeks of English language training provided in partnership with the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) followed by an intensive eight-week firefighting training programme provided through International Fire Training Centre-Serco at Dubai World Central (DWC) airport.

Dubai Airports maintains one of the largest airport fire services departments in the world across two airports. The department is fully equipped with a fleet of Aviation Rosenbauer vehicles armed with the latest aircraft firefighting technologies and safety controls, domestic vehicles,  MICC (Mobile incident Command vehicle) to monitor incidents,  water tankers, as well as  rescue stairs vehicles at each location.

Dubai Airports, operator of Dubai International (DXB), the world’s busiest international airport, and Dubai World Central (DWC), has announced the appointment of Majed Al Joker as its Chief Operating Officer (COO). The move is in line with Dubai Airports’ commitment to develop and promote emergent Emirati leaders, and is part of the operator’s preparations and planning to stay primed and ready to capitalise on growth opportunities anticipated over the coming years.

As the COO, Al Joker’s role combines key operational functions at Dubai Airports including Terminal Service Delivery, Airside Service Delivery, Airport Operations Control Centre, Security, and Safety & Sustainability into a single business unit. Prior to his promotion, Al Joker was Executive Vice President of Corporate Affairs.

“As someone who has held senior positions across the business and successfully led teams in delivering key objectives for the organisation over nearly a decade and a half, Majed brings a wealth of experience to the role. Al Joker joined Dubai Airports in 2008 as Vice President of Terminal Operations before he was promoted to the position of Senior Vice President of Operations. Prior to joining Dubai Airports, he served as Deputy Director of Airport Operations at Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC). He began his journey in the aviation industry at Emirates airline, where he worked as the outstation airport services manager at several destinations and was later appointed as the airline’s regional manager for airport services covering 24 stations in West Asia.

Dubai Airports and the Federal Youth Authority have announced a partnership that will see the allocation of commercial spaces at the world’s busiest international airport, DXB, for young Emirati entrepreneurs. The partnership was solidified during a tour for H.E. Saeed Al Nazari, Director General of the Federal Youth Authority, and H.E. Jamal Al Hai, Deputy CEO of Dubai Airports.

Both organisations will work together on the Youth Launchpad initiative, a programme which provides commercial spaces, in highly sought-after locations, to help support startup businesses founded by young Emirati entrepreneurs. For the airport, the focus will be to seek start-ups that will showcase Arabian culture, hospitality, and creativity.

In partnership with the Authority, Dubai Airports will create a specially designed area, in one of the busiest areas of the airport between Concourses B and C. This space will offer young entrepreneurs the opportunity to launch their projects to a truly global audience.

The latest agreement is part of Dubai Airports’ ongoing support to Federal Youth Authority initiatives, with its airports already hosting several projects, as well as the Dubai Airports Youth Council, which it formed in cooperation with the authority.

Youth Launchpad initiative
In September 2019, H. H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, launched the ‘Youth Launchpad’ initiative, as a Federal Youth Authority initiative.
