Dubai Airports marks World Environment Day

How many light bulbs does it take to change an airport? In the lead up to World Environment Day on 5th June, Dubai Airports is shining the light on its latest sustainability achievement – the recent completion of an 18-month long project under which more than 152,000 conventional lights in locations across Dubai International's (DXB) terminals were replaced with energy-saving LED light fixtures. The project is estimated to help the world's busiest international airport save a whopping 52 million kilowatt hours of energy annually – enough electricity to power 7,000 average homes for one year. DXB and Dubai World Central (DWC) achieved Level 3 of the Airports Council International's (ACI) Airport Carbon Accreditation programme in 2019 and operator Dubai Airports is an active supporter of the UAE National Agenda 2021's sustainable environment goals, as well as the International Civil Aviation Organisation's (ICAO) global strategy to deal with climate change.
